OUR HISTORY
National History
alpha Kappa Delta Phi was established at the University of California at Berkeley in the fall of 1989 and was recognized by the college Panhellenic association on February 7, 1990. The founding sisters - Susan Kim, Fannie Pon, Jill Yoshimura, and Reina Yuan - dedicated themselves to establishing a strong and lasting organization which would provide Asian American women the opportunity to participate in the Greek system. Soon after being recognized by the college Pan-Hellenic association the founding sisters brought together a diverse group of women who shared with them the goals of sisterhood, scholarship, and leadership. These ideals were to later set the foundation for alpha Kappa Delta Phi's purpose.
SUNY Binghamton - Chapter History
In the Spring of 2002, Melissa San Pedro came together with Katie Cheng, Allison Cheung, Hannah Choi, Peggy Fung, Ann Kim, Karen lee, Jennifer Ng, Aileen Ok, Jennifer Park, Jing Wu, Sylvia Yim and Polly Yu to form an interest group whose primary goal was to establish a colony of alpha Kappa Delta Phi at Binghamton University. Together, they sought out other strong, driven women who shared the same desire for positive change on campus and in the community. By Fall of 2002, the group was joined by the addition of Madhu Partha, Mary Huang, Veronica Isla, Erin Lee and Julie Lim. Through hard work, perseverance and genuine love for one another, the interest group was granted a bid from alpha Kappa Delta Phi. In the Spring of 2003, these 18 women embarked upon the final part of the arduous journey towards sisterhood. Their aspirations proved successful when they crossed into eternal sisterhood and became the alpha Kappa Delta Phi Charter Class at Binghamton University.
